Mjko GmbH, one of the top four German mushroom producers, has posted a series of videos on Facebook and TikTok to recruit mushroom harvesters from Poland and Romania. These videos feature the MycoSense AI Spotlight prominently, which is a great idea as it reassures candidates that modern tools are in place to help them get trained rapidly, and perform well. Mushroom harvesters are often paid by weight, so anything the farm can do to help pickers pick faster, while harvesting the right mushrooms, is a win-win.

The group of new pickers with no previous picking experience was split in two, half equipped with Spotlight, and half without.

3 months later, they all improved their picking speed month-to-month as expected, but the pickers equipped with Spotlight are consistently 20% to 30% faster than their colleagues.

The worst picker without a Spotlight was then equipped with a Spotlight, and the following month she was better than all her colleagues without Spotlights: 37% improvement in picking speed.
This 3-month long trial was performed on traditional Dutch shelves, with picking carts that are pushed around manually. The size of mushrooms picked by Wauwiler is generally 40-55mm, and the MycoSense Thinning algorithm was used throughout the trial.
The result is that Wauwiler Champignons has ordered Spotlights for all their pickers.
